Roll lifter: lift paper rolls and coils ergonomically

picks up heavy paper rolls, films and coils and lets you lift, turn and position them ergonomically. Unlike simple crane attachments, Zeilhofer manipulators, lift axes and lifts guide the roll rigidly and pendulum-free, up to 1,200 kg. Zeilhofer Handhabungstechnik from Holzkirchen, Germany, builds every roll lifter individually.
Another practical example is shown in Efficient roll handling. For an overview of all lifting aids, see Lifting aids for production and industry.

What is a roll lifter?
A roll lifter is a lifting aid specifically for cylindrical loads. A suitable gripper picks up the roll from the inside, outside or side. The operator then guides it with little effort while the system carries the weight.
Lift, turn and position rolls safely
Cylindrical loads roll, tip and swing easily. A roll lifter with rigid load guidance prevents exactly that:
the roll stays controlled in every position, no swinging.
move rolls from horizontal to vertical.
onto shaft, mandrel, pallet or into the machine.
sensitive surfaces stay undamaged.
Applications for the roll lifter
Paper and printing: pick up paper rolls and load them into the machine.
Packaging and film: change film and stretch rolls.
Textiles: handle fabric and yarn rolls.
Metal: move sheet coils and strip rolls.
Which system for which roll?
For stationary workstations, the manipulator up to 800 kg is ideal; for heavy vertical lifts the ZH90 lift axis up to 1,200 kg. The gripper is built as an individual fixture to match your roll diameter. How pendulum-free guidance works is explained in function and benefit.
Ergonomics and cost-effectiveness
Lifting rolls by hand puts heavy strain on back and shoulders. A roll lifter lowers the risk of musculoskeletal disorders and speeds up roll changes. Whether the investment pays off is shown in amortisation and ROI of a lifting aid. Zeilhofer is certified to ISO 9001 and TISAX Level 2 with prototype protection.
Individual engineering
Every roll is different: diameter, weight, core and surface determine the gripper. Zeilhofer plans every roll lifter from process analysis through design and manufacturing to commissioning and service, all from a single source.
Frequently asked questions about roll lifters
What is a roll lifter?
A lifting aid for cylindrical loads such as paper rolls, films or coils. A suitable gripper picks up the roll, the system carries the weight, the operator guides it with little effort.
What is a roll lift?
Roll lift is another term for a roll lifter. It refers to a lifting aid that raises, turns and positions rolls. Zeilhofer realises this with manipulators, lift axes and lifts.
Is a roll lifter worth it?
Usually yes. A roll lifter reduces downtime from back strain, speeds up roll changes and protects sensitive surfaces. It often pays for itself within the first year.
What loads does a roll lifter move?
Up to 1,200 kg depending on the system. Manipulators guide rolls up to 800 kg, the ZH90 lift axis up to 1,200 kg, mobile lifts up to 100 kg.
