Zeilhofer Handling Technology is a family-run manufacturer of manipulators, lifting axes, and lifting aids based in Holzkirchen, Germany. A DAY AT ZEILHOFER
This is what your daily work routine looks like.
In the construction
In the morning, I coordinate with manufacturing and control engineering regarding the current customer project. Then I design a custom lifting axis using CAD; no two components are alike. In the afternoon, I consult with the customer because the requirements are specific. Short communication channels: management is just one office away.
In the project planning
The day begins with a review of ongoing customer projects: What is the status of each order, and what needs a decision today? Then it's time to coordinate with design, manufacturing, and purchasing to ensure deadlines and technical specifications align. At midday, there's a call with an international customer who requires a custom solution. In the afternoon, a supply bottleneck is resolved quickly and directly, because no one here has to wait for three approvals. Ultimately, what matters is that the project runs smoothly and the customer is satisfied.
In manufacturing
The day begins at the machine with cutting the components for a manipulator. Each assembly is unique; precision is more important than quantity. Intermittently, there are joint inspections with the design team directly at the machine. At the end of the day, there's a component you can touch and see.
In purchasing
In the morning, I check open orders and delivery dates to ensure production doesn't slow down. Then I negotiate prices and terms with a supplier for a current project. In between, I consult with the design department because a custom component needs to be sourced that isn't available off the shelf. In the afternoon, I establish a second source of supply to maintain delivery capacity. Short lines of communication between all departments make procurement quick and efficient.
